Duke University Health System is a world-class health care network dedicated to providing outstanding patient care, educating tomorrow's health care leaders, and discovering new and better ways to treat disease through biomedical research. It offers patients brilliant medicine, thoughtful care through a complete continuum of health services, from primary care to hospice. Students in the Spanish Service-Learning Program will shadow social workers and interpreters in various departments within the hospital. Some students will work with Duke's HCEP (Health Careers Exploration Program) and volunteer in the hospital as patient advocates. HCEP volunteers must apply and be accepted through the HCEP program. Durham Crisis Response Center

For more than twenty years, the Durham Crisis Response Center has been the sole provider of comprehensive shelter and support services in the Durham area, providing counseling, legal advocacy, support groups, and shelter to survivors and their families in the aftermath of domestic or sexual violence. DCRC also offers youth prevention workshops and training to schools, the general public and professionals throughout the Triangle. Students in the Spanish Service-Learning Program are assisting with Latino/a outreach and domestic violence prevention education programs.

El Centro Hispano is a grassroots community based organization dedicated to strengthening the Latino community and improving the quality of life of Latino residents in Durham , North Carolina , and the surrounding area. El Centro Hispano accomplishes its mission through education, community support, leadership development, community organizing and by establishing alliances with other communities and organizations. Students in the Spanish Service-Learning Program are working with various health related programs.

El Pueblo is a North Carolina non-profit statewide advocacy and public policy organization dedicated to strengthening the Latino Community. This mission is accomplished through leadership development, proactive and direct advocacy, education, and promotion of cross-cultural understanding in partnerships at the local, state, and national levels. Students in the Spanish Service-Learning Program will assist with El Pueblo's Nuestra Seguridad Campaign which provides information on DWI prevention. Students will survey community members about the Campaign and their personal decisions regarding DWI.

LATCH-Local Access to Coordinated Healthcare (Division of Community Health, Duke University)

LATCH is a program within the Duke Division of Community Health which promotes wellness and strengthens the capacity of the local community to understand and access healthcare and community resources. It is available to all uninsured Durham County residents. A student in the Service-Learning Program will assist in developing health information packets and a health education portfolio for clients.

Planned Parenthood of Central North Carolina provides education programs, health care, and advocacy to help reduce unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections, especially among teens, people with limited incomes, and the uninsured. A student in the Spanish Service-Learning Program will assist with a youth development and pregnancy prevention program for native-Spanish speaking youth, Joven a Joven: Promotores de La Salud Adolescente.

Welcome Baby provides education and support to families of Durham County with young children (ages newborn to 5 years old). Students in the Spanish Service-Learning Program will introduce Welcome Baby services to families with newborns and to provide them with other important newborn information.
